According to statistics from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, in the first half of 2012, the total import and export volume of medical devices reached US$13.83 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.76%, 27.55 percentage points lower than the same period last year. Among them, the export value was US$8.127 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13.93%, 30.94 percentage points lower than the same period last year.
According to data from China Business Information Network, in the first half of 2012, the sales output value of my country's medical device industry reached 68.08 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 20.1%. Among them, the export delivery value of medical devices was 17.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of only 3.46%.
Improve the export of medical equipment
Liu Jie, a researcher at the China Business Information Network, said in an interview with the International Business Daily reporter that due to the weak demand in the international market, insufficient momentum for world economic growth, and difficulties in the recovery of the two major economies of Europe and the United States, the growth rate of my country's medical device exports has declined.
The medical devices exported by my country are mainly low-tech value-added products. Although after years of development, my country's medical device industry exports have maintained a steady growth trend and have occupied a considerable share in the international market, the export products are mainly low-end and labor-intensive products with relatively low technical content. The quality of my country's disposable consumables, medical dressings and massage equipment is comparable to similar foreign products, but the price advantage is more obvious, so domestic companies have obvious comparative advantages and competitiveness in the international market.
In this regard, Liu Jie believes that my country should increase policy support for medical devices. While encouraging medical device companies to go global, it is also necessary to promote companies to increase innovation and research and development efforts, accelerate product upgrades, expand capital and technology-intensive medical equipment exports; improve management levels to adapt to international operations, strengthen independent brand building, and improve corporate competitiveness.
